USAC Academic Affairs Commission
The Academic Affairs Commission of UCLA is the official voice and representative for all academic-related issues for the undergraduate student body. There are currently 56 students who are active student leaders in the Academic Affairs Commission as advocates and programmers serving the 25,000 members of the Undergraduate Students Association.
Since the commission's inception in 1982, it has been involved in such advocacy efforts as the establishment of the Department of Chicana and Chicano Studies and the creation of Undergraduate Student Initiated Education (USIE) seminars. This year, we will be adding to the Academic Affairs Commission's long history of student advocacy two new advocacy campaigns: the creation of undergraduate business studies and establishing pre-professional counseling at UCLA. In addition, the Academic Affairs Commission this year will continue expanding its academic programming, including programs supporting the freshman/transfer adjustment, career programming including the commission's "UCLA Feud" series, "Dinner with Grad Students" programs, and the creation of a USAC "Issues" film series on the Hill.
The Academic Affairs Commission serves as a voice for UCLA students beyond Kerckhoff. The commission sends representatives to the Academic Senate, UCLA's governing body of faculty. The commission also has oversight over the Student Initiated Outreach Center and the Campus Retention Committee through voting seats. Finally, the Academic Affairs Commission also awards grants for academic programming to UCLA student organizations through its Academic Affairs Mini-Grants and Academic Success Referendum Fund grants.
